AHA! A Hands-On Adventure

The Avery-Downer House was built in 1842 and is one of America’s preeminent examples of Greek Revival architecture. The home was constructed by successful businessman Alfred Avery and remained a private residence until 1903 when it became home sequentially to Denison University fraternities Phi Gamma Delta and Kappa Sigma. It once again became a private home in 1956, when Robbins Hunter Jr., a noted historian and antiquarian, resided here. Under the provisions of his will, this important American landmark and historical treasure was opened as the Robbins Hunter Museum in 1981. The Robbins Hunter Museum is furnished with 18th & 19th-century decorative arts acquired by the original owners, as well as collectors tied to the house over its long history. The building has undergone extensive restoration and rehabilitation, revealing the beauty of this important Grecian landmark.

Science Play-Space Initiative (SPI SPOT)

With a reputation as a center of excellence for the restoration and maintenance of World War II era aircraft, the Museum honors our nation’s veterans and their families while educating the public about the experiences of past generations that flew in combat. As one of the world’s few organizations actively restoring WWII era aircraft, the Champaign Aviation Museum offers its visitors a rare, hands-on opportunity to experience and learn about the history, personal stories, aircraft, and artifacts of the era, and to engage with volunteers as they work to rebuild an airworthy WWII B-17 bomber named “The Champaign Lady.” Visitors can see five additional WWII era aircraft at the Museum, as well as automobiles and many historic artifacts. The Champaign Aviation Museum is located on-site at the Grimes Field civilian airport and offers a full-service Airport Cafe restaurant for its visitors to enjoy.

Galion Historical Society

The Mansfield Art Center presents 14 visual art exhibitions each year which include 6 major regional exhibitions in our Main GalleryS, 7 smaller exhibitions in our Foundation Gallery, and our annual Holiday Fair which showcases the art of nearly 200 Ohio artists. Each year our education team prepares and delivers 4 full quarters of on-site art instruction. We co-direct the Kennedy Center Partners in Education Partnership. The Adams County Historical Society owns and maintains the historic and beautiful Charles A. Dugan Mansion and Museum in Decatur, IN. This 6,000 square foot home is the headquarters for the Historical Society and houses many antique artifacts from the Adams County area. The ACHS was founded in 1957 and acquired the Dugan Mansion at auction in 1968 for $17,500 after the last Dugan family member passed away.

The 1824 home of Rufus and Jane Pratt Dunham in MidTown Cleveland is a designated Cleveland Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In stark contrast to the cityscape that surrounds it, the museum and its gardens offer a glimpse of history and insight into the lifestyles of early Ohio settlers and travelers.
